5 Ways to Celebrate Black History Month

1. REST, friend! That’s right, REST! Take a nap. Use that PTO. Take a day off in the middle of the week to do nothing. Do you know what your great-great-great grandmother would’ve given to rest? To just take a nap? To just be? We often associate rest with being a reward for hard work but it’s not. Rest is your birthright. Act as such.

2. Throw imposter syndrome right in the trash! Exactly where it belongs. Walk in every room like you deserve to be there because you do. Someone in your bloodline came over on a deadly boat, worked tirelessly, fought discrimination and segragation, and somehow managed to carry on so you could be where you are in this exact moment. Don’t take your success lightly, friend. You are your ancestor’s wildest dream. You are THAT girl.

3. Have a self care day. Wake up early, do yoga, read a book, catch up on your favorite Netflix show. Self care can be so many things and varies for everyone. Take time to really sit with yourself and your thoughts. Reflect on the year so far. Self care is a necessity.

4. We’re no longer fighting for a seat at the table. Working a traditional 9-5 in the corporate world can be exhausting. Honor the ancestors this month by wearing your braids as long as you want, rocking your long bright nails, and overall committing to being your true self, no matter the environment. So many of us fight for a seat at the table to only be given a folding chair with poor padding. Not this month! Stand true in who you are and work towards building your own table – with cute and comfy seats for all.

5. Get your friends together for brunch! Put on bright hues and cute outfits. As our good sis Bey said, “Forget these laid edges, I’ma let it shrivel up.” Do just that, friend! Don’t forget the bottomless mimosas and bomb Instagram pics. Document those good moments. After all, it's what the ancestors would want.
